Scholarship for Feeric and romanian designers at Feeric Fashion Week

Feeric Fashion Week together with IED Milano (European Fashion Institute of Milan) are offering a full scholarship to one Romanian designer that will be chosen from all designers participating at Feeric Fashion Week.

The American star, Derek Warburton, will be the host of Feeric Gala.

For the first time in the history of Romanian fashion shows, a transgender model – Petr Nitka – will be walking the runway.

                With each edition Feeric Fashion Week reaches new international milestones, being the most important fashion week in Eastern Europe, based on both number of designers and the quality of the collections on display, not to mention the prestigious international partnerships built year by year. The anniversary edition of Feeric Fashion Week come with a huge news for Romanian and foreign designers taking part in this year’s fashion week Feeric Fashion Week has created a partnership with Istituto Europeo di Design (IED) in Milano – one of the most prestigious fashion schools in the world – in order to actively contribute to the development of the fashion industry in Romania. The Milan-based institute will be offering to the winner of the contest a scholarship for one of its summer courses to be completed in 2018. The challenge is open to all designers with Romanian nationality between 18 and 99 years of age but also to foreign designers taking part in Feeric. Participants are required to apply with a „caspsule” collection for the spring-summer season containing five creations for men, women, children or unisex. The collection should express the vision of the designer regarding Italian traditions, culture, language or values. Submissions are open until July 10 and the required materials can be uploaded on the IED website, http://www.ied.edu/. The jury will be made up of several professors from the institute and will be presided by Giovanni Ottonello, director of creation at IED.

Feeric Fashion Week goes beyond the borders of Europe because this year’s edition has a great invitee from overseas, more precisely from the US. The special guest of this edition is  Derek Warburton and he will also be the host of the Feeric Gala taking place on the last day of the festival, July 22nd, in Piața Mică, on the suspended bridge which can be found parallel to the Podul Minciunilor (Bridge of Lies). Derek is an international media personality, celebrity stylist, owner and creative director of Lapalme Magazine, which is a premiere lifestyle publication that is distributed internationally. Lapalme is a sophisticated quarterly magazine that provides its readers a fresh perspective that highlights today’s elevated lifestyle. Over the years he has developed a loyal following of celebrities, Fortune 500 brands and the TV viewing public across America. Each year, Derek appears on 80 plus talk shows, not only in America but across the pond with multiple appearances on shows such as Good Day New York, The Daily Buzz, Live Well Network, Fox and NBC. His televised style advice has led to cameos on The Real Housewives of New York and co-hosting programs like UK’s Fashion Avenue and Style’s Big Boutique. Not only does he have a strong TV presence, he can be found on the red carpet at the biggest events and was named the Style Ambassador for the Nolcha Shows during New York Fashion Week this past February. In addition to being TV’s go-to guy for Style, Derek has worked as a featured editor for Maxim, Ocean Drive, Style Interview Magazine and was the International Style Director for Hong Kong. When it comes to his busy schedule he manages to be quite the philanthropist which has always played a major role in his life and continues to do so. This year he was appointed as the Goodwill Ambassador for Just a Drop, an international water aid charity and the state of California has named him the official Style Ambassador of the city of Los Angeles because of his outstanding philanthropic work not only in the city of Los Angeles but across the world. The American personality will be present during the whole seven days of the festival in Sibiu.

The 10th edition of Feeric Fashion Week comes with a new premier. For the first time in the history of Romanian fashion shows, one of the few transgender models in the world will be walking the runway. Petr Nitka was born in the Czech Republic and has made its debut in the fashion world during South Africa Fashion Week. Since then he has had the opportunity of walking at all major fashion events around the world, the most recent one being in India during Lakme Fashion Week Summer Resort. „I’ve always felt different. I felt like a girl ever since I remember and even my facial traits are more feminine then masculine. Being part of the international fashion industry gives allows me to be myself and to try and become a role-model for transgender all over the world. I wish to show everyone that being different is actually refreshing. I’m very happy to be join Feeric Fashion Week and that I am the first transgender to participant at this festival. I want to show people from the Balkans and from Eastern Europe that they should be exactly what they want to be and that there is no reason to hide such emotions. Preconceptions about what it means to be different no longer have place in today’s world”, says Petr Nitka.

Feeric Fashion Week will be held between July 17 – 23 in Sibiu. The event is co financed by the Local Counsel of Sibiu (Consiliul Local Sibiu) through the Sibiu City Hall.
